Emergency Response Plan Development

What is an emergency response plan

An emergency response plan is a mandatory and critical part of an organization's business continuity management (BCM) program and its emergency planning. When an emergency situation develops it is important to react quickly, calmly and in a controlled manner. A variety of emergencies may require workplace evacuation. An emergency response plan is in place for “when” an emergency happens, not “if” an emergency happens.

The purpose of an emergency response plan is to facilitate employer and employee actions before and during emergencies.

The plan needs to address workplace emergencies for extreme situations that threaten employees, customers, or the public; disrupts or shuts down your operations; or causes physical / environmental damage.

Benefits of an effective emergency response plan

An effective emergency response plan (also known as emergency action plan/emergency preparedness plan/crisis management plan) aims to save life, reduce injuries and enhances your company’s ability to recover from financial losses, damages to equipment or products or business interruption during emergencies.

It bonds management and employees by having them share responsibilities in the plan and gives companies the opportunity to establish relationships with law enforcement leaders and firefighters.

A well-developed plan will help your organization to demonstrate a commitment to safety, improve regulatory compliance, standardize response methods, reduce downtime, and elevate training and drills.
